Birr Motor Club are wondering if they will get enough entries to run their MVAT. They need at least 28 to break even. They are planning to run this in Athlone where they have some new sites lined up.

Please register your interest, otherwise the event will be cancelled and replaced by a single venue autotest in Birr (Concrete yard that was used for their last autotest)

I for one am keen for the MVAT to go forward and plan to attend.

It seems like the the new off road declaration rule that came into effect late last year is having a large impact on our sport.

If road tax is having an impact on MVAT's then surely trying to attract more classic car owners to compete is the way forward as vintage road tax of 56EUR is a negligible amount by comparison. Selecting smoother surface locations would encourage classic car owners to use their cars as they are less likely to cause them harm. In addition, this would also vary the level of competition within the events by developing a more diverse range of vehicles, and promote the use of more rear wheel drive vehicles as this class doesn't usually have a high level of entry.

This is just a general observation of all MVAT's and should in no way detract from the Birr event as I know it is a well organised and highly regarded event and I am optimistic for it to take place.
