Post EP82 Starlet Rear Shock Bump Stops Reply with quote
Howya lads, I'm putting a new set of rear shocks into the Starlet (long over due and no more bunny hopping rear wheel soon Smile

Anyway, the dust covers are rotten and disintegrated and I need fresh ones. They are part of the bump stops. Motor factors can't supply them and are main dealer only - and are pretty pricey for what they are.

Anybody know a good supplier / website or a solution?

I'd go without the dust covers only I think I'll fubar the shocks quicker with so much dirt being thrown up on the struts at MVATs, so best to look after them....

You haven't been in touch with the motorsport friendly Toyota storeman yet Wink

You could always just put a steering rack boot over the exposed damper rod for protection if you cant get the proper job

I actually got a set of these yesterday, all 4 of mine were knackered. Got the fronts from Rathgar motor factors without a problem but rears had to be bought from my local motorsport friendly Toyota parts supplier (Sorry Speedy, you're not local enough!) They are dear, think about €37 ex vat each but if they save a shock that costs over €100 then it's probably worth it.

Cheers Speedy! YHPM

Dave - that's not a bad idea, I actually have a spare rack lying around with good boots on it... although I would like to have the proper job if the price is reasonable.

Phillip - that is very dear, Deansgrange quoted me less than that inc vat... what shocks did you buy out of interest that costed 100 per corner? Konis? I opted for the KYB to start with - 40 each inc vat per corner from Autocare.

They ended up a bit cheaper after discount kingers. Yep I got Koni adjustables, only for the fact that there's a good few other Starlets using them. I wouldn't be that bothered about replacing them if the ones on the car weren't so bad, and theres certainly nothing wrong with the original Toyota ones they were grand on my car when I got it first. Did you get front bump stops too by the way?

The rears failed the NCT and were noticeably fubarred when driving. Front suspension is a while away yet, it's a long, cost effective project ! Smile

It also failed on an inner steering tie rod which looks to be a total mare of a thing to do without a ramp...

Result! Picked up my new KYB's this morning and they came in the complete struts, including bottom bush AND the bump stops and dust covers - all for 40 euro each.

So if you want new rear bump stops and dust covers, bu them from Autocare and get a free KYB shock! Smile
