This years event runs from May 28th to 30th with a prologue and information day on the 27th. Based in Llandudno, North Wales, the route is located mainly in Mid and North West Wales with tests and regularities in Anglesey, Gwynedd and Clwyd covering a total of 500miles approx. A Touring Trial will also run as part of the event which has already attracted a full entry or 120 cars with reserves.
There will be a wide and varied mix of cars fighting it out for overall and class honours including Lancia Fulvias, Lotus Elans, Jaguar XK120's, Porsche 914/6's, Escort Mk1's, Minis and a Corvette Stingray.
Irish interest in the event will be focused mainly on Dermot Carnegie in his new Mk1 Escort with Paul Bosdet looking after the time cards. Dermot plans to use the TDC Classic Retro in April as a shake down for the Welsh event. Another Irish crew on the entry list is David and Rosemary Anderson in a Mercedes 450SL.

Full details can be found at the Three Castles Classic Trial website

Just a week away to the Three Castles Classic Trial, some small changes in the entry list, Dermot is using the Mini instead of the Escort, a few drop outs but a nice selection of cars in the 123 on the start list, anything from a 1932 Bentley to a 1979 TVR Taimar.

A few pics from Day1

On the Prom before the start

test one at the Orme Toll Road

not a good start for Dermot and Paul in the Mini, car startied hopping out of gear just after the start of test 1, so they only had first and fourth for the rest of the day, on the second visit to Anglesey racetrack the car was very thirsty and needed a large drink of water, there seemed to be a weep in the rad, fingerscrossed that things can be sorted for tomorrow. Weather over here is smashing and the selection of cars competeting is mouthwatering, from early Mini Coopers to the Mustang, The Dino, Jag XK's, Sunbeam Tigers and numerous Porsches

No Starlets, 1979 is the oldest allowed. We are having fun, just a pity the organisers aren't a bit better at giving out some info as to where the event is going. Some more of the Irish competitors are needed to show them how to drive the tests.
Dermot got sorted alright, Eamonn & Daniel Byrne arrived over on the boat late last night and set about stripping the Engine and box while DC got his "beauty sleep" Laughing, they overhauled the box and checked the engine over and had it all back together in time for the start this morning and then the 2 lads headed back to Wicklow. DC was in more trouble today, but not as severe, Paul asked him at one point if they had a punture and DC replied "She doesn't feel herself", when they checked the back wheels there was only 2 nuts holding on the rear right wheel so they had to be gentle with the car and get it to Glan Y Gors kart track where some new studs were fitted to the hub and a nut from the left wheel used so they had 3 nuts on each of the rears. The nuts are to be drilled out tonight and fitted to give him a full compliment of nuts on all wheels for the morning.
And to keep up Pauls tradition both himself and DC are in matching shirts Laughing Laughing

Hopefully I'll be around on Sunday....depending on tiredness

very smooth event so far, picked to suit the fancy machines, not too many events around where you'll see some of the cars that are on this one.

Thanks Piers, I'll take that as a compliment lol

All over this afternoon and DC & Paul got to the finish in one piece,I think they won their class, talking to a few of the marshals over the last three days and two drivers were talked about and praised for their driving, DC being the first and historic rally man Ricky Proffit being the second, Dermot for precision driving and Ricky for his flair and showmanship

Sounds like it was a great event... Good news about DC.. How would it compare to the TDC retro event? More or less challenging?

Easier to get info about the TDC Retro, tests I seen were easy but some people still managed to go wrong, road book looked very clear, tulips to all locations. It would be a little bit more relaxed than our retros and more of a touring event. Even though I found it hard to get info about what was happening it's an event I'd like to try in a car........provided I had a suitable car and finances
