Post Wexford Motor Club Classic & Sportscar Charity Event Reply with quote
Hi folks,

Wexford Motor Club are running a Classic and Sportscar charity event on 11th April. The event promises to be a great day out. About 2 1/2 hours driving, using Tulip Maps, some optional tests and possibly an optional "Drive" up the hill at JF Kennedy Park. The optional parts of the event are for competition licence holders. This is the first event of this type that the Wexford Motor Club are hosting so support from any TDC drivers would be greatly appreciated. For any further information please contact me; rorypower@hotmail.com or on 087 9622820

Many thanks,

Rory

Hey Piers, Its unfortunately on the same weekend as a lot of events. I'm doing an overnight tulip rally to Cork with Slatequarries club the night before. Will have to high tail it back to Wexford on the sunday morning to do this event. Gotta support your local club.

Would this be a more suitable event for beginners than the TDC retro?

Thanks,

J.

I'm not exactly sure what the regulations for the retros are but I think the car has to be relatively well prepared. I do know that some of the events have overnight navigation stages. What sort of car were you thinking of driving if you were coming down to the Wexford event?

It'd be a Mini, I guess I'm asking about it's suitability for beginners as I didn't get to the navigation course last year so apart from the research I've done I'd be a novice.

Its a very simple event really. Very very easy. Tulip maps are very easy to read. Just a drawing of a crossroad with arrows. Good fun tho. I did one with the Slatequarries club last year and my navigator called off that morning, so I had to drive and navigate myself! Still kicked the ass off a Porsche 911 in my 44 yr old mini!

The Wexford event would be more suitable

The TDC Classic is at quite a high level. OK if you feel confident, but takes your energy so can be a bit spirit dampening at the end if it hasn't gone too well.
On the other side there is a great sense of achievment if you get around without too much difficulty.

There are tests as well that some experience would help with.

It's a personal choice at the end of the day.

And nobody wins either the rally or an autotest at the first go !

It sounds like a good starting point for me alright, don't worry I don't expect to be competitive for a long, long time.....maybe not even then Smile

I've tried to get it moved Damien, but no joy. They've got flyers etc printed and a lot of sponsorship. Are you doing the Retro?

J it should be a good event. Theres a meeting in a couple of weeks and I'll tell you more about whats happening after that. The beginners championship in the summer will be ideal for you. I had loads of fun doing it. The tests seemed difficult at the time, but anyone who did last sundays MEC event will verify that they are easy enough. No reverse throws in the first two or three events.

Any more info on this event? I'm not sure I'd be able to attend yet but it'd be handy to know the details in case I can Smile
