Time: 1:00 PM in front of the Grandstand in Mondello.

For the first time the 2010 Mondello Jap-Fest and Eurostyle show will feature a Gymkhana demonstration. For anyone not familiar with this newly emerging sport it is a challenge of skill and speed which combines the sports of autotesting and drifting.

Unlike Autotesting Gymkhana does not include any reversing and consists of a course which each driver must follow accurately and quickly. The course usually involves slaloms and doughnuts around cones, and sections where quick changes of direction are required, making it ideally suited to rear wheel drive saloons.

The winner is the driver who completes the course in the quickest time taking into account any time penalties added for leaving the course or touching a marker cone.

The Gymkhana demonstration will take place in the Mondello Park drift arena directly in front of the grandstand

Its a pitty the club didn't let club members know this was happening today. I would have liked to have seen it.

Sorry Damien, I only found out last night that we were going to be doing this.. Russ Swift was supposed to be doing this demonstration but dropped out at the last minute.

Many thanks to Joe & Mark Doran for supplying and driving a Nova & Escort, Frank Lenehan for bringing his Nova (driven by Joe), Mick Melady for supplying the Altezza and Robert Kinsella for driving it. Also thanks to Ciaran Nutty for bringing his westfield and being brave enough to let Ronnie drive it... I have forgotted one or two other names...

Yes, many thanks to Frank Lenehan and Ciaran nutty for the lend of their cars. It was enjoyable to take part. If only this was my day job. Idea I just had an idea, if I learn how to drive on 2 wheels, people will come and see it, Im sure nobody has ever seen that before, right?

if the 2 wheels are the left front and right rear then you might be on to a winner Laughing

You might want to fit your car out with a stabliser like this truck just in case you don't get it right first time Very Happy

I know there is a driving school in the uk teaching it, they had a similar stabiliser on their car, I couldn't find the site when I went looking for it earlier.

Did anybody see or film the Gymkhana as opposed to the TDC 'autoswifttest'!!! - which I agree was very good. - or am I confused and that was the Gymkhana?

As Piers described a Gymkhana appears like an American sport from which the Uk devised Autosolo and then in the Caribbean they have a similar thing called 'Dexterity' - all involve very little if any reverse and looking through Google Ken Block seems to have added his own ideas on the subject.

Real Autotesting is a very Irish /UK thing -the Australian Championships use the same test all year - diagrams coming measurements so you could set your own practice test - most cars are also automatic
