21st July 2012: QUBMC Summer Lanes |
|
Welcome to the 2012 CIP Insurance QUB Summer Lanes Rally. This will be the fifth running of our annual lanes rally and having built a reputation for a great fun event hope you will find this year as good as ever.
We are delighted announce the new association with CIP insurance services, and take this opportunity to thank Conn & Paul Williamson for their help and interest in our event.
This event is primarily a navigation rally, the road navigation being of simple “Tulip diagrams” with fairly relaxed timing between points. The main competitive elements are the “special tests” Our interpretation of these being a cross between a short Special Stage and an Autotest.
The Special Tests are all on private property, mainly lanes with a mixture of Concrete, Tarmac, Gravel, and a little grass and mud! Tests start at one end of a lane finishing at the other, passing through the odd yard.
The tests will vary in length from about 0.25 to 1.25 miles. We have planned about nine tests which may be run a number of times but with some changes of route for each run.
Cars will start at one minute intervals.
Cars Must stop astride the finish line as is the practice in autotests. The car will then be expected to move forward to the marshal for him or her to fill in your time-card, clearing the finish for the next competitor.
The clock will be stopped when the front wheels traverse the finish line and a penalty will be added if you fail to come to a complete stop before the rear wheels touch said line!
There will be NO recce or walking of the tests! No competitor is allowed onto the test unless in their vehicle and being timed. The start line is deemed to be a prohibited area which no competitor can pass on foot. The penalty for ignoring this will be exclusion. Crews will compete all tests “blind” using only the information provided by ourselves.
THIS MUST BE ADHEARED TO!
No reversing will be required, (unless you make a mess of it)
Bogey times for all tests are set at a 30mph average and measures will be taken to ensure this is not beaten. These measures may include: chicanes, slaloms, code boards (which will be changed throughout the day), stop boxes, and the occasional 360!
The test information will be variously in the form of; drawn diagrams, aerial photographs, tulips, and perhaps some other information. Pylons will have identification letters attached to them which will also be in your test diagram. Therefore you will have all the information you require to traverse the tests as a crew.
We have put a lot of thought and effort into this event to ensure that it remains challenging but is also competitor friendly and fun! If you have any queries regarding the event or the eligibility of your car please feel free to get in touch with Philip Campbell on: +44 (0) 7900615000
We look forward to seeing you on the 21st July

Hi Piers,
The guys are working hard at the moment, (Exams finished and Graduations this week). The start and finish will be the BallyMac again, some old favorites and some new lanes are planned. Regs and entry forms should be up soon. I shall keep you informed as soon as I have anything to add.
