*********** The Battle of Birr 9.2.2013 *************

The Battle of Birr will commence in Mondello Park @ 9:30am. The atmosphere will be frosty as the Birr MC members face a tough fight for top honours in the first round of their club championship.

Alls fair in love and war on multivenues.......
As Birr goes on tour.

Looking forward to seeing mondello again. Must be 10-15 years since I meandered through the hole in the hedge.

Hi Rob - you will be back at the "hole in the hedge" during The battle of Birr but I suspect you won't be meandering through it! I will post an entry list online by next Monday night so you can see who your opposition is and you can plan your battle tactics accordingly!

Entries are continuing to flow in and we have some more unusual cars declared. First up is a heavy weight Opel Manta which belies its size and covers the ground with great ease due to it's sheer horsepower. This is one to watch out for in the final line up as the more open tests will suit this big stylish beast. The MG Midgets face stiff competition from their burly and muscular big brother aka a MGBGT who performs well on all surfaces.

Mark Doran CoC has been hard at work in Mondello and has come up with fantastic tests on all surfaces.

Expect the unexpected and watch this space for all updates!

I will be posting Test Drawings later on this week to give you a flava of what to expect. I have an arial view of Mondello too(thank you google maps), which outlines test starts and finishes. You will also be allowed to walk (not drive) 2 or 3 tests before drivers briefing (I haven't decided if the 3rd one can be walked yet). Between this and the detailed maps, their shouldnt be any excuses. Also driving on any tests before event start(including warming up) is strictly verboten. Any drivers caught doing so will be disqualified. You can drive to the start of a test to walk it of course.

Thanks

Mark

For the benefit of anyone who hasn't yet read Appendix 91 (Multi Venue Autotests) of the 2013 Yearbook on the MI website, please note that

ALL FORMS OF IN-CAR CAMERAS OR OTHER RECORDING EQUIPMENT ARE NOW FORBIDDEN IN MVATs, WITH A PENALTY OF EXCLUSION.

(Article 9.7 of Appendix 91)

Thanks Felix for pointing out this rule, but I have to ask what is the reasoning behind it.
We use on board cameras in racing, they are used in rally cars, rallycross, karting, motorcycle sport of all kinds, cycling, snowboarding, swimming, sky diving......etc etc. They are now an easily affordable piece of modern everyday technology.
So I have to ask the question, why are they not allowed in multi venues? Where or what is the problem? It can't be a safety issue.
Quite the contrary, they are an invaluable learning tool. How else can one evaluate their performance, spot strong and weak points and learn from one's mistakes.
And whatever about on board recording, no one can forbid others from recording the competitors from the sidelines, and putting the videos up on youtube.
The reality is that the cars actually look slower from the inboard than from outside where all the sideways action shows.
